How to use the courses as virtual Driving Ranges or to play a practice round.
In addition to the standard Menu items covered in the How To Use OptiShot section, Practice Mode has two new items: Holes and Always Follow/Never Follow. These will be discussed below.
When you first enter Practice Mode, the Practice Tips window will pop up.

At the bottom of this window is a checkbox, "Do not show this message at startup". If you check this box, the Practice Tips window will not show again when you enter Practice Mode.
If you have turned this feature off, but want to bring it back, you can click on the question mark
in the lower left of the Overhead Map. The Practice Tips windows will show. If you want it to always show when you enter Practice Mode uncheck the "Do not show this message at startup" check box.
When you first enter Practice Mode, OptiShot is set up to allow you to shoot from the same location over and over, practicing a particular shot. This allows you to use any position on any hole in any course as a virtual Driving Range.
However, you can change this so that when you shoot you follow the ball down the course and your next shot is from that lie as you would in Game Mode. This way you can practice an actual round on your chosen course.
These choices are called Always Follow and Never Follow. Always Follow will cause you to move with the ball as you shoot it down the course. Never Follow has you remain in one position returning you there after each practice shot.
To change from one method to the other, use the Always Follow or Never Follow item on the menu.
When you are in Practice Mode, you can place the ball anywhere you wish. There are two ways to place the ball on a particular hole.
The first is to click with the mouse on the Overhead Map. Wherever you click, OptiShot will move your ball to that location.
If you wish more precise placement you can Ctl+click in the main view. That is, hold down the Control key and click the left mouse button. This allows you to precisely place the ball in the desired location.
You can easily move from one hole to another while in Practice Mode. The first method is to click on the Holes item on the menu. This brings up a submenu listing this course’s holes and their pars. Clicking any hole listed will move you to that hole’s tee for practice.

You can also move by using your keyboard. Simply click the number you wish to move to.
When in Practice Mode there is only one player. However, you can have more than one player use the software. If both players have the same handedness and use the same Clubset, simply take turns practicing.
You can change the Clubset being used by clicking Clubsets on the menu, select the Clubset you wish, then click OK. If one player is left-handed and the other right-handed, you can quickly switch by using the H key on your keyboard.
